Additional description

Personnel from the Keerom Police and the Cartenz Peace Task Force arrested a West Papuan, Maam Taplo, on 22 November 2025, in the Arso Swakarsa area, Keerom Regency. According to the police, Maam was suspected of being involved in the murder of a health worker in Kiwirok, Pegunungan Bintang, in September 2021.

Police also accuse Maam of involvement in a number of violent acts with armed groups.

On 14 July 2026, the Wamena District Court found Maam Taplo guilty of “participating in arson that endangered public safety” and sentenced him to six years’ imprisonment, in line with the prosecution’s demand.
