Additional description

In order to find the Susi Air pilot held hostage by TPNPB in Nduga, security forces conducted search operations in Nduga and a number of surrounding regencies. One of them was in Lanny Jaya Regency.

Local human rights activists reported that during the operation, the authorities carried out arbitrary arrests and detention as well as torture against a number of civilians. One of them was Wity Unue.

Unue and several other people were arrested and taken to the military headquarters in Timika, Mimika Regency. Allegedly subjected to severe torture, Unue was returned to Lanny Jaya in a dead body on 8 April 2023.
