Security forces arrested Annis Taplo for his allegedly involvement in a number of attacks with a pro-independence armed group led by Lamek Taplo. Annis was charged with allowing his group to burn down Bank Papua in Kiwirok District, Pegunungan Bintang Regency.

During the trial, Annis was facing trial without legal counsel. Prosecutors demanded that he be sentenced to 4 years' imprisonment.

With the conditional release policy granted to prisoners who have served two-thirds of their sentence, this prisoner should have been released in in mid-September 2025, or even earlier if he had previously received several remissions.
