Jayapura City police arrested seven of the hundreds of students who demonstrated against the G20 Summit. Two of the seven students (Gerson Pigai and Kamus Bayage) were named as suspects in an attack on officers. The other five were released after being questioned.
At the trial, the public prosecutors demanded that Pigai and Bayage be sentenced to 9 months in prison. The judges sentenced them to 5 months and 10 days in prison. The day after the verdict, the prosecutors filed an appeal against the judges' decision but it was withdrawn the next day.
