Joint security forces arrested four civilians in the area of the Old KPU Complex on Jalan Sohosa, Dekai, Yahukimo, on 22 February 2026. The four individuals were Menggel Soma, a local KNPB leader, Melkim Selak, Kutrom Suhun and Hilang Suhun. In addition to arresting them, the forces also confiscated a number of tools, including axes, machetes, kitchen knives, arrows and even a child’s school bag.
On 24 February, at 10.23 pm, the police released the KNPB Solbi Sector Chair, Menggel Soma, and the other three. Soma claimed that his arrest was not accompanied by a warrant. He claimed he was beaten and kicked until he felt dizzy in the interrogation room at Yahukimo District Police Station, and was pressured to admit to being a TPNPB combatant.
