Police personnel arrested an airport officer and two West Papuan students at Nop Goliat Airport, Yahukimo Regency, on July 26, 2025. They were Stevanus Silak, Ben Sobolim, and Ami Sobolim. The arrests were made without a warrant and there was no official announcement regarding the reasons for the arrests.
On 14 October 2025, it was reported that the police had handed over Ami Sobolim's case file to the Wamena District Attorney's Office. In the indictment, Ami was accused of assaulting a resident, causing serious injury.
On 26 February 2026, judges at the Wamena District Court found Ami guilty of assault and sentenced him to two years and six months’ imprisonment. Previously, the prosecutor had asked the judge to impose a five-year prison sentence for the charge of damage to property.
