- Additional description
On 24 April 2024, it was reported that an armed group member, Samson Same, surrendered to the government and security forces in Maybrat. Samson was allegedly involved in the attack on the Kisor Military Post that killed four TNI soldiers in early September 2021.
Samson was then prosecuted. On 18 September 2024, his case was registered at the Sorong District Court, with charges of premeditated murder. The prosecutor requested that Samson be convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. On 22 January 2025, the panel of judges at the Sorong District Court found Samson guilty and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
The prosecutor appealed. On 17 March 2025, the court of appeal upheld the previous verdict. The prosecutor appealed again, but on 3 July 2025, the Supreme Court also upheld the previous verdict.
A week after the cassation verdict, Samson was reported to have died in custody. The head of the Sorong Class IIB Prison said that Samson had a chronic respiratory disease. However, he also admitted that the Sorong Prison did not have adequate health care facilities.
