- Additional description
A number of Indonesian Air Force personnel assaulted Amsal Marandof and his sister, Ida Marandof, on 5 June 2015. Previously, Amsal had been kicked by one of the Air Force personnel and Amsal retaliated by swinging a machete at the helmet of one of the soldiers.
Following the incident, Amsal was detained at the Biak Police Station, while his sister was taken to the Indonesian Air Force Hospital on Jalan Sisingamangaraja. After receiving treatment, Ida was given Rp100,000 and told that the matter was now closed.
It is unclear what happened after Amsal was detained. The Biak District Court website lists two cases related to a person named Amsal Marandof. Both cases are related to theft. In the first case, Amsal was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison. In the second case, the trial did not reach a verdict because Amsal reportedly escaped from prison on 13 December 2016.
