Personnel from Satgas Damai Cartenz and the Marine Corps arrested a student named Neri Balingga on 17 March 2026. Neri was arrested at Kali Nami, on the Yahukimo-Pegunungan Bintang Trans Road, whilst on his way to a gold-panning site in Korowai.
Security forces intercepted Neri and his companions, searched them and seized a number of items such as bracelets, necklaces, machetes, and a mobile phone containing photos of the TPNPB obtained from Facebook. The authorities arrested Neri and took him to Yahukimo Police Station for questioning.
The following day, Neri was released after it was not proven that he was affiliated with an armed group and after a number of community leaders and family members visited the police station.
