Yahukimo police personnel are reported to have arrested three civilians in a settlement next to the housing of Yaukimo DPRD members, 4 April 2024. The three people arrested were Herako Labie, Elai Matuan, and Herako Labie's wife. The arrests took place at 4am.
Police reportedly confiscated items such as axes, machetes, shovels, kitchen tools, clothes, two motorbikes. The three men were reportedly detained at Yahukimo Police Station.
According to a local human rights defender, the three men were arrested on suspicion of involvement with an armed group. As it was not proven, after three days of detention, they were released but their confiscated belongings were retained.
