Satgas Damai Cartensz personnel reportedly arrested Nikson Matuan in Yalimo District, 2 February 2025, for his alleged involvement with armed groups and possession of firearms stolen by Aske Mabel from Yalimo District Police.
On 21 March 2025, the case was handed over by the police to the Jayawijaya District Attorney's Office, in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency.
On 26 June 2025, the panel of judges found Nikson guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison. The prosecutor appealed because the sentence was seven years lower than the prosecutor's demand.
On 20 August 2025, the Jayapura High Court increased Nikson's sentence to ten years in prison. Nikson appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court, but on 28 October, his appeal was rejected.
