Satgas Damai Cartenz personnel arrested a student, Ivan Kobak, shortly after he celebrated his graduation in front of his school, SMK Yapesli, Yahukimo, 5 May 2025. Ivan was then taken to Yahukimo Police Station, questioned and detained there for his alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a non-Papuan woman on 3 May 2025.

In court, Ivan was charged with premeditated murder and assault causing grievous bodily harm. The prosecutor requested that the judge sentence Ivan to five years in prison for premeditated murder. However, on 15 December 2025, the panel of judges found Ivan guilty of spreading content that incited and caused hostility based on ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup relations (SARA) and sentenced him to one year in prison.
