Yonif 509/BY military personnel allegedly arbitrarily arrested and tortured 16-year-old Yulianus Abigau near Yonif 509/BY Military Post, Kampung Mamba, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, 8 December 2024.

Yulianus and his friend were reportedly riding a motorbike. But because they ran out of petrol, a friend pushed the motorbike, while Yulianus walked towards Kampung Mamba to buy petrol. On the way, he was intercepted by Yonif 509/BY personnel and allegedly taken to the forest behind the military post.

Yulianus was later found dead among the grass 20-30m away from the military post. His body was covered in wounds from torture and bayonet stabs.

His body was taken by police personnel to the hospital. The family received his body in the afternoon and buried him on 10 December without forensic testing.
