Jayapura police arrested Muhammad Iqbal and took him to the police station. There, Iqbal was confronted by dozens of migrants who were angered by the content of a video Iqbal had made. In the video, Iqbal criticised the actions of migrants who were arrogant and excessive in responding to the mass procession carrying the body of Lukas Enembe. Iqbal, who is not ethnically Papuan but was born in Serui, West Papua, warned migrants to respect the indigenous people as the landowners on the island of Papua.

After being slapped by one of the leaders of the migrants present at the police station and asked to make a video apology, Iqbal was released.
