Joint Indonesian security forces arbitrarily arrested and tortured Yenus Mohi, a 19-year-old Indigenous Papuan from the Yali tribe, together with two other young men in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, on 23 March 2026. They were arrested whilst travelling along Jl. Seradala, Dekai District, without a warrant. Around ten officers pointed their weapons at them and forcibly took them to a detention centre. Personal belongings such as noken, mobile phone, bracelet and hat were confiscated.
Yenus was released on 27 March 2026 and taken home in critical condition in two tactical vehicles. His body was badly bruised from being kicked and beaten with iron and wooden sticks. Yenus even admitted that he had briefly lost consciousness as a result of the torture he endured.
