Satgas Damai Cartenz arrested MM, the Kenyam District Chief, for allegedly conspiring with a pro-independence armed group led by Egianus Kogoya. MM is alleged to have funnelled Rp30 million to the group.

In the court of first instance, the prosecutor sought four years' imprisonment for the defendant. The panel of judges, on 31 October 2023, found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 6 months' imprisonment.

In the court of second instance, the panel of appeal judges at the Jayapura High Court, on 23 January 2024, sentenced the defendant to 2 years' imprisonment. A few weeks later, the defendant appealed the verdict of the High Court to the Supreme Court. On 29 February 2024, the Panel of Judges of the Court of Cassation decided to reject the defendant's appeal.
