Police personnel arrested Yakobus Waine on the Trans Nabire-Manokwari Road, Yaur District, Nabire Regency, Central Papua, on 29 September 2024. The police found that Yakobus was carrying 300 rounds of 7.62 mm calibre ammunition.
He obtained the ammunition by purchasing it from Yeremias Saroi and Daud Ayok. Daud obtained the ammunition he sold from two Brimob personnel, Adang Hidayat and Septinus Ayok.
Yakobus was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Nabire District Court judge on 28 July 2025. At the Supreme Court (court of cassation) level, Yakobus' sentence was increased to 12 years in prison on 4 December 2025.
