Security forces, most likely military, arrested Yemison Murib and his friend named Tarian Murib alias Iyande Murib in a traditional house in Nolage Village, Yenggelo District, Puncak Regency.
After being arrested, they were both taken to Timika by helicopter.
Yemison was tried in Wamena, Jayawijaya District. It is not known what happened to Tarian Murib after being taken to Timika.
At trial, Yemison was asked by prosecutors to be sentenced to 4 years in prison. The judge sentenced him to 3 years and 10 months.
With the conditional release policy granted to prisoners who have served two-thirds of their sentence, this prisoner should have been released in early November 2025, or even earlier if he had previously received several remissions.
