Sorong police personnel arrested 11 indigenous people for allegedly selling diesel oil belonging to a palm oil plantation company, PT Inti Kebun Sejahtera (IKSJ), on 8 May 2025. The arrests were protested by local indigenous people who claim to be the holders of customary land used by the company. The company was also considered not open and there was no legal clarity about the losses the company suffered.
On 18 July 2025, the case of the eleven people was registered at the Sorong District Court with the classification of embezzlement case. On 7 October, the Sorong District Court found them guilty and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from six months to one year. The defendants appealed the verdict.
At the court of appeal, on 25 November 2025, the defendant's sentence was changed to 1 year, previously was 9 months.
