Indonesian military personnel reportedly arrested six civilians in Zanamba village, Intan Jaya Regency, 13 May 2025. The civilians were Peles Handani and his wife, Misael Tabuni and his wife, then Julianus Janambani, and Daniel Hondani.
They were reportedly taken to the Bilapa military post but managed to escape at almost midnight on 14 May 2025, after hearing the news that they would be executed.
Their arrest was part of a military operation in Intan Jaya that escalated in mid-May 2025. Military personnel conducted sweeps in Hitadipa District and Sugapa District, particularly in Titigi, Ndugusiga, Jaindapa, Sugapa Lama and Zanamba Villages. A number of people were reportedly killed during the sweep and pursuit of members of the armed group.
