Police arrested Rupinus Murib in Tolikara for his alleged involvement in the murder of female activist Michelle Kurisi Doga/Maikelin Mandosir Kurisi. Murib is said to be a member of the KNPB - and the local KNPB denies the allegations.
On 19 August 2024, a panel of judges at the Jayapura District Court found Rupinus guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison, 10 years less than the prosecutor's demands.
On 26 August 2024, defendant and prosecutor filed an appeal against the judge's decision. On 10 October 2024, a panel of judges at the Jayapura High Court decided to uphold the previous verdict.
