A number of TNI members arrested two civilians in Ayata Village, East Aifat District, Maybrat Regency. The two residents named Dominggus Momao and Wilem Wakom were arrested and detained by the TNI because they were accused of feeding food to armed groups. In fact, according to the victim's statement, they were ordered by the Acting Maybrat Regent and the Refugee Repatriation Team to negotiate with the leader of the armed group so as not to attack the workers who were repairing the road from Ayata to Aisa.

The soldiers detained them both at the Ayata Military Post and then moved them to the Susumuk Military Post. During their detention, their hands and mouths were tied. While at the Susumuk Military Post, the two of them were placed separately and TNI soldiers allegedly committed acts of torture, one of which was by beating the victims using old rubber tires.

On Tuesday, January 22, 2024, soldiers escorted them to the police station in Kumurkek. In the afternoon, they were both released.

After his release, due to the severity of the torture, Dominggus was taken to Sorong for treatment for a week.
