A group of plainclothes security officers arrested a 14-year-old boy, YN, in Dekai, Yahukimo, on 29 March 2026. They arrested YN at 5 pm whilst he was on his way home from a kiosk where he had been using the Wi-Fi. The arrest was carried out without any clear reason and without any official documents. YN was immediately forced into a minivan.

The family tried to locate him at the Yahukimo Police Station twice. Officers claimed not to know of him and advised the family to go to the Brimob headquarters, where they received a similar response, being told to go to the local police station. The local police officers were also unaware of him, so the family returned to the Yahukimo Police Station and discovered that YN was in fact there.
