Indonesian security forces arbitrarily arrested dozens of Papuan youths, including minors and students, in Dekai, Yahukimo, between 21 and 23 February 2026. This occurred during the ongoing armed conflict in the region.

On the morning of 21 February, security forces surrounded a resident’s house in the Kali Biru Complex, Dekai, and arrested 11 people (seven teenagers and four young men). Four of them – Jekson Giban, BNO, YTG and SMR – were released the following day. During the arrest, the security forces also seized a motorbike, mobile phones, kitchen utensils and other household items belonging to the homeowner.

On 23 February 2026, Kris Kotor Giban, also known as Kotor Payage, was transferred to the Papua Regional Police Headquarters in Jayapura. Kris is alleged to have been involved in the attempted murder and shooting of Suwono on 12 February 2026.
