Indonesian military sweeps took place in the Puncak Regency on 3 February 2024 and arrested Werinus Murib (19), Andinus Murib (21), and Devius Kogoya (20). Security forces arrested Werinus and Andinus in the Eromaga Village when they were covering the roof of a house with straw. Devius was walking with his friend to the Wako Village when the security forces met them. His friend fled the scene but DK was arrested for carrying a machete – a tool used by indigenous Papuan for gardening.

Military commander put three weapons on the ground and asked Kogoya to admit that the weapons belonged to the victims. The three arrestees were detained separately. Military members tortured them with the same methods of torture which victims were forced to enter a barrel filled with water and hands were tied to the back. In that position, the military punch, beat them, and kick their body and heads using bare hands, also blunt objects.
