Yunus was arrested without a warrant on 16 October 2022 while being escorted by his wife to take care of work-related documents. After more than 24 hours of no news, it was discovered that on 20 October 2022 Yunus was named as a suspect in an excavator theft case.

His lawyer filed a pretrial appeal against Yunus' detention against the chief prosecutor and the local police chief. But the lawsuit was dropped after the police finally suspended Yunus' detention on 15 December 2022.
