A joint Indonesian military and police arbitrarily arrested nine people, some of them were students, in Dekai, the capital of Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, on Saturday, 17 January 2026, at 7:20 p.m. while they were sitting and talking at the residence of Oskar Payage on Paradiso Route near the Bonto River. The security forces reportedly carried out the arrest without providing any reason before forcing them into a riot-control police vehicle and taking them to the Yahukimo Regional Police headquarters. With the exception of Yunius Heluka, who remained in custody, they were all released in the early hours of the following morning.
