Esther Haluk, West Papuan Activist and staff member of KontraS Papua was arrested on 10 May 2022 during a protest for rejecting the creation of new provinces and extension of the special autonomy law in Jayapura. She was accused of being one of the organisers of the mass protest in Jayapura. It was also reported that the joint officers from Damai Cartenz operations and personnel of Polresta Jayapura arrested 7 KNPB members. They were held in Polresta Jayapura station for questioning. These individuals are Omikson Balingga, Jefry Wenda, Iman Kogoya, Abi Douw, Ones Suhuniap, Neli Itlay and Maxi Mangga. According to interview with SBS news Esther mentioned that they were released in early morning of local time on 11 May without charges.
