Yogyakarta Regional Police arrested MM, one of the participants in the 1 December 2024 demonstration in Yogyakarta. The demonstration, attended by 188 Papuan and Indonesian students, was held to commemorate West Papua's Independence Day, which was declared on 1 December 1961.

The demonstration was obstructed and dispersed by the police. Not accepting the dispersal and treatment by the police, the demonstrators became angry and clashed with the police.

MM was arrested for allegedly assaulting the police.
